Toronto Star and food pandering.

So the Star Editorial Board thinks it knows everything on what we’re suppose to eat and it blames Conservative Leader Andrew Scheer for wanting to change it. It is ridiculous to blame Scheer for wanting to keep things the same, after the liberals wanted to change the food chart. They accuse Scheer of “dalliance” which means essentially he’s taking to long and they say that it could come at the expense of health of Canadians.

I’m not worried. Why is The Board worried?

And they worry that it could cause us people to eat more animal products. And, (this is a key factor), We could end up eating more meat and dairy and less food such as fruits, vegetables and plant based foods. Let’s get this straight. They are suggesting that we eat less meat, so we don’t gain weight and to eat the food of a Vegetarian. I for one do not want us to become a nation of vegetarians. And changing the Food Chart to reflect that is a bad idea. And should not be endorsed by a Newspaper Editorial. Because I don’t think when among Star employees there is a high percentage of Vegetarians and it doesn’t look to good when you’re endorsing to have them that you’re not living it by example. You shouldn’t be criticizing others for wanting to keep meat in the food chart.

Also, they say that the food chart influences policies like having vending machines in schools (full of things like coke, ginger ale which has tons of sugar in them and what we eat in hospitals and the kind of advice a Doctor may give us. That’s fair. But two years ago I had heart surgery, and after I went to Physiotherapy where I learned first hand on what I was able to eat everyday and what things to avoid altogether. The food chart was the basis for that. If the food chart was such a bad thing like they say, why was it the basis for all my eating while in the hospital, and recommended during physiotherapy? So why change it, which is what this Editorial Board wants, because the liberals are trying too? Typical. But that doesn’t make it right, especially if this food chart has already helped people like myself from developing heart disease again. Is that a bad thing? Again, this Editorial Board doesn’t know anything. And is again, just a liberal supporting newspaper, which is why it criticizes Andrew Scheer and Doug Ford while it endorses Justin Trudeau.

Let’s not forget these are both politicians. Justin Trudeau and Andrew Scheer.

The Board should remember that they have both make bad decisions like kicking Jody Wilson Raybould out of the liberal caucus. And firing her from her position. And as a matter of fact, I hope Andrew Scheer does win the Election in October which if anyone from Yonge Street was watching, that would be the equivalent of saying: “As a matter of fact, I do own the road.” Lol. The entire Newspaper chain I think tends to rely, when writing their stories on different things, experts, and gather information through statistics and percentages to draw it’s conclusions. You’ll see that on a regular basis if you read it. This Opinion piece is no exception. Look near to the end and it says to look at a Senate study in 2016 that says the percentage of overweight adults has doubled to 66% since 1980, so that means that the percentage in 1980 was at 33%. That’s 33% from a population of just 24 million people.

That’s actually over six million Canadians! Who are overweight. That’s why percentages are deceiving. Let’s see what it is today. The Population I just heard just reached 37 Million. And it says it’s at 66%. That’s 12.3 million. Okay so that’s more. I’m not afraid to say it. That’s more people. So, is that report telling the Truth? I think so. But I still wouldn’t do things by statistics and percentages. It doesn’t tell the whole story. I think what the Star Editorial Board should do is use the people inside it’s building and judge for themselves how many are overweight and need to lose some, and should do things like having vending machines with all the proper foods such as apples, oranges, not the juice brand because it’s very highly concentrated with lots of sugar. And also, just so it can prove to be an example. It should also have the food chart which is issued by Health Canada in each of it’s lunchrooms. It should also do a study on how many are in fact overweight. See what the percentage is. I’m sure it will be much lower than 66 percent. Also, it says that the food guide from 2007 was a culprit of “enabling” people to have poor eating habits.

So does that mean that people reading that Food Chart issued by HEALTH CANADA was giving us the wrong information and was in fact causing people to gain weight? And has contributed to 66% of the population being obese? There isn’t a government in Canada that wants their people obese or overweight. And this Editorial Board better get that through it’s head. Conservative Governments have always wanted their people to be healthy. In fact, if you go back to 1995 you’ll find that the federal government lowered the price of cigarettes, this because of smuggling of duty free cigarettes. And this was under Jean Chretien. Is there an editorial board willing to tackle this? I didn’t think so. And we all know that cigarettes will kill you and even non-smokers with second hand smoke and even animals such as pets. I know this as proof. The Right Honourable Brian Mulroney increased the price, Jean Chretien lowered the price. But no mistakes, there was nothing wrong with that 2007 Food Chart issued by Health Canada because the emphasis is on people eating well not getting overweight. Blaming Andrew Scheer is wrong headed thinking because it’s not his desire for me to smoke, gain weight, and die at a young age and thus not contribute more taxes and revenue to the government. It’s not in his best interest. Saying that he tried to “politicize” the matter around the food guide is wrong because it’s not wrong to include meat in with the food chart. And by the way, adding more Plant Based Proteins actually taste awful. It’s like having a vegetarian hamburger and Soy based milk. Which taste awful.

They also mentioned a couple of times that the Conservatives could win the election. The Truth is I hope they do win. And that we can get rid of this newspaper. Take care.
