It could be said that this story could is about having a National Minimum Wage but it is about liberal media bias and is what this Toronto Star Editorial Board is all about. They even like when government raise taxes and promote Climate Change. They definitely hate Ontario Premier Doug Ford. So let’s ask an obvious question,
Does the Star wish to be paying it’s Unionized Employees $15\Hr?
I don’t think so, and I don’t think they are. And it is this Board that thinks there should be a National Minimum Wage. It does of course criticize Premier Doug Ford for cancelling the wage hike. In fact, it says that at $14 dollars, it would have been 15 dollars “if Doug Ford’s Progressive Conservatives had not been elected last year.” So is this my fault? and the people of Ontario who decided there had to be change? Do you prefer to pay more money than have a different government? I mean just think, If Kathleen Wynne were STILL the Premier we would have HAD that 15 bucks for every employee. That’s what we wanted all along! Really? It’s no wonder no one buys your newspaper. Let’s keep running a deficit for years and years to come. Do you want to believe that taxes and Minimum need to be higher? At the risk of offending some people I need to say what I think of those on the Editorial Board of the Star,
Are you people stupid?
There I said it. Because if this Newspaper ran their business the way government did, they would be bankrupt. I wish they were. Having a National Minimum Wage would make matters worse. There’s two very big things that they don’t mention. First, There’s a very big difference between someone who’s skilled like I am to Push-back an Aircraft and someone who works in the same place at Tim Hortons. One has work experience the other is just beginning. Someone has skill and the other is at entry level. It took me five years to become a Ramp Lead and to push back my first Aircraft. There’s over One Hundred passengers on that A/C. I may not type very well but I can push a plane and fire a weapon. Another thing that happens is What happens when the Minimum Wage goes up dramatically for an entry level worker? The answer is the price goes up for those who are skilled workers. In other words, Everything goes up! Do you care for the business that’s paying for all that? They are in business to make money. To pay for their expenses and to generate a profit. But of course, these poor poor people who miss their Kathleen Wynne Gov’t. don’t mention that. The column mentions things like “Labour Groups.” I think that’s code for Union.
And it mentions people like myself who work at Pearson International Airport. They should mention first of all that almost every Company that employs Ramp employees are in fact unionized. This includes myself. Also remember there is ONE Company that isn’t. It’s GTA D’nata. Their employees do not have a CBA with their Company. Maybe they will some day. But what you should also remember is that this Company has gained the services of Several Airlines that used to belong to Swissport Ground Inc. These include, Air Transat, Eva Air, Jet Airways, Austrian Airlines, Lufthansa, Turkish Airlines, Philippine Airlines. This is a Non-Unionized Company. It could be said that they’re paying their employees well, but that’s not the same as Unionized employees who have Union Representatives to negotiate wage benefits. They are making more money for employees who have worked for for their Company for longer. But make no mistake, One Company is more successful than another because they don’t have to deal with Union Contracts. They have the power to negotiate and gain the services of a new Airline and do it for less money if they want too. So long as it’s possible to generate a profit. This is how Companies have gained Services and how Swissport has lost some.
I have heard of a Minimum Wage for Ramp Agents, but nothing has ever become of it. And this Toronto Star Editorial Board, thinks having a Union is a is a good thing. So, do they think it’s a great idea to be negotiating with their employees? They say that there are employees who are living in poverty. I can say that isn’t telling the Truth. Because I have not personally met anyone who’s living in poverty. I personally am not. And, Praise the Lord, no one else is either. And there are close to 40,000 employees working at PIA. Also remember, that increasing a Minimum Wage to any amount does not guarantee a person’s poverty. If a man is an alcoholic he will continue in poverty no matter what he makes and if someone is a lousy blackjack player that can’t stop gambling he will be poor as well. The Editorial Board doesn’t mention that either. And criticizing a Conservative Government and their Leader is premature. They are not responsible for a person’s poverty. Cutting back on a person’s wages will not make a person poor. What the Star Editorial Board should really grasp is this:
The people have decided that is was time for Change. And their Opinion Doesn’t make a difference either. Nor will their Opinion of Doug Ford change my mind or anyone else’s for that matter. Just report the news about Queen’s Park for what it is. Those like Robert Benzie. Tell the Truth. You might sell more newspapers.
